The complex of sacral buildings built during the time of Bishop Euphrasius is located in the northeastern part of the historic core of the city. It consists of a three-nave basilica, an outer vestibule connected to a square courtyard and an octagonal baptistery to which a Gothic bell tower is attached. The basilica got its present form in the 13th and 15th centuries, and the church tower was built in the 16th century. The main apse in the basilica is richly decorated with mosaics that, along with the mosaics from the church of San Vitale in Ravenna, are among the most important European examples of mosaic art. Given its importance, it is on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.
In the Euphrasian complex, which, apart from the Euphrasian Basilica itself, consists of several other interconnected buildings and spaces, static rehabilitation and ensuring the stability of the buildings was carried out. As part of the project of unifying the presentation of Euphrasiana, construction and craftsmanship works and a number of other extremely sensitive and specific procedures were carried out according to strict restoration and conservation methods and instructions.
